Many houses have sloping roofs. The disadvantage of this is the often empty space. In this project Wouter shows how he made beautiful and practical bookcases for the attic. He worked with small cubes and provided them with LED lighting. The result is a beautiful whole.

Description by Wouter

I made built-in bookcases in our attic. The sloping roof left empty space that was boarded up. I milled slots in the cubes for LED strips.

How I made this project

I first made 4 large and 4 small cubes with a back wall. I milled slots in this so that an aluminum LED channel could be clamped in. I then made a base for the bottom cubes so that I could place them down and attach them to the existing wooden frame of the wall. I then slid the top cubes in and screwed the cubes together. For the finish I bought hardwood profiles and attached them with nails.

Dimensions of my DIY project

40.0 cm wide
72.0 cm high

top cube 14.0 deep
bottom cube 31.0 deep
