Description

To ensure that the radiator in our living room would be out of sight, I made a radiator conversion. By extending the windowsill at the same time, we also have the opportunity to sit comfortably on the windowsill or, in the case of the children, to play here.

Because we have an empty space next to the radiator. had a space of approx. 47.0 cm, we extended the windowsill and made a corner cupboard on top of it.

Work description: how did you realize your project

First of all, we have ideas on Pinterest acquired for the radiator conversion. After this I made a rough sketch, which I then worked out to scale in Excel. I measured everything again based on the sketch and then ordered the wood from opmaatzagen.nl.

As soon as everything was in, I first laid everything out on the floor (photo 5). Based on this, I made a frame of wooden beams (8.0 × 4.0 cm) to provide extra strength to the model and on which the plate for the windowsill can rest (photo 3 / 4).

I then first painted the MDF planks with MDF primer and then painted them white. Then I put the front together with dowels and wood glue so that no screws are visible. The front was ultimately attached to this frame with dowels, so that it is easy to remove (photo 1 / 6 / 7 / 8). Finally, I used planks of 28.5 × 28.5 cm made another stepped corner cupboard (photo 2 / 9) I attached the parts to each other with dowels and wood glue. I also secured the vertical planks to the wall in the middle for extra strength.

Final size: What are the external dimensions?

The external dimensions of the radiator casing are 304.0 cm wide and 50.0 cm high. The depth is 45.0 cm at the widest part.
The corner cupboard connected to this is 28.5 cm wide and 28.5 cm deep. The height (measured from the radiator casing) is 180.0 cm high.
