Automatic cutting schemes

Our webshop automatically generates and optimizes cutting schemes when you opt for the 'for sawn per sheet' type. Read here more about how to order via our configurator. What is scheme optimization?

Automatically optimizing cutting schemes from a (wooden) plate is a process that uses software and algorithms to determine the most efficient way to cut various pieces from a single wooden plate. This process helps to reduce material waste and lower costs. Through our webshop, you don't have to worry about the cutting scheme; we optimize it for you. It immediately considers all the criteria to be able to realize a professionally cut item.

View provisional example cutting scheme

To assist you in dividing a plate, you can view the provisional example cutting scheme. This way, you can see which pieces are still available and further allocate them. Viewing the cutting scheme is easily done through the shopping cart via the link 'View sawing schedule'. 

Why a provisional example scheme?

Calculating the schemes usually takes a lot of time because all the cuts need to be carefully calculated. We have developed a quick variant that generates the cutting schemes with up to 90% accuracy based on the pieces you specify.

Remnant sizes may differ or be absent

The remnants and the layout of the rest are not calculated in this scheme. Therefore, the sizes of the remnants may differ from the cutting scheme if you do not add them as separate items. Do you want to actually receive the pieces in that size? Then add them as an item. Remnants shorter or less wide than +/- 15.0 cm are never included.

Criteria to consider when compiling your own cutting scheme

Thickness of the saw blade

We use different types of saw blades for different types of wood. Some wood is harder than others, resulting in a different type of saw blade. Each saw blade has its own thickness. The thickness of the saw blade is an important criterion during optimization. Would you like to calculate a cutting scheme yourself? Then calculate with a saw blade width of 4 mm, so you never go wrong!

Required margin to achieve sharp edges

Sharp edges are essential for most projects. Therefore, we maintain different types of margins during optimization. Below are the most common:

  • Clean cutting: Every whole plate that is taken from the rack is first cleanly cut. This means 1.5 cm is cut off from each side (3.0 cm all around), ensuring we can achieve square corners and sharp edges.
  • Special shapes: For special (round) shapes, we first cut a rectangular shape with a margin of 1.0 cm per side.
  • Special edge finishes: For various finishes, including miter, we calculate an extra margin so we can later achieve the edge finish neatly and precisely to size. 

Available plate sizes

We optimize with various plate size dimensions. This way, we constantly look for the smallest plate size that fits all your specified pieces.

How does optimization work?

  1. Specification of the items: First, the dimensions and the number of needed wooden pieces must be specified. This includes length, width, and in some cases the grain direction of the wood.
  2. Inventory of available plate sizes: The dimensions of the available plate sizes are inventoried.
  3. Generation of a provisional example cutting scheme: With the input from the first two steps, cutting optimization software is applied. This software uses complex algorithms to calculate the most efficient way to cut the required pieces from the available wooden plates. The software considers the following criteria:
    • Thickness of the cuts / saw blade
    • Margin for clean cutting
    • Required margin to achieve sharp edges
  4. Adjustments: For each item you add, optimization is performed again. This ensures we always provide the most optimal scheme!
